COVID 19 Response

COVID 19 Response

March 19, 2020

Dear BCEC Members,

Like you, the directors and leadership of Big Country Electric Cooperative (BCEC) are well-aware of the COVID-19/Coronavirus turmoil that is prevalent in the world around us. Per recommendations by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, BCEC offices will now be closed to visitors through April 3, 2020.  Please follow us on Facebook or check this webpage for timely updates or changes.

BCEC employees are practicing all safety precautions and distancing from each other as much as possible, or working from home. We are striving to serve you as normally as possible while trying to protect our employees and their families. The COVID19 situation will not interrupt delivery of electricity to you.

Please keep in mind that there are a variety of ways for you to communicate with us during this time of “social distancing” and our temporary lobby closures:

  • Live Chat – visit to live chat with one of our helpful Member Account Representatives during BCEC office hours, which are 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Friday. Look for the icon at the bottom right corner of your screen when you access our homepage.
  • SmartHub – This free app provides you complete access to your BCEC account anytime, from anywhere! You can view your usage, billing and payment history, and submit questions or service requests to us whether you access SmartHub through our website (icon on top right of homepage) or by downloading and using the app on your smart phone or tablet. You will need to have your BCEC account number handy to get started – please call us if you need help with that.
  • Give us a call! BCEC staff will answer the phone during regular office hours, and our 24-hr. dispatch takes over outside of those times. All parties are trained to make sure your needs are addressed.

Toll-free: 1-888-662-2232

Roby: (325) 776-2244          Snyder: (325) 573-3161          Stamford: (325) 773-3684

Outages will be responded to as always; crews are working and on standby! Service trucks will run to make scheduled or immediately necessary repairs. Non-critical new construction may be postponed. Each office will be checking their payment drop box and mail, but you can also use SmartHub or pay by phone. Members experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19 closures and related instances, please contact us.

BCEC’s 21st Annual Meeting, which was scheduled for Thursday, April 23 at Rotan High School, is canceled. Because our Annual Report publication deadline occurred before the COVID19 virus became widespread in the United States, you will still receive that in your April Texas Co-op Power magazine, but the meeting itself will not take place. We are consulting with our legal advisors and board of directors to determine how to proceed beyond cancellation of annual meeting and will share that information with our members in upcoming editions of our Membergram newsletter and Texas Co-op Power magazine local pages.

BCEC is moving forward responsibly, day-by-day, and will adapt as necessary to continue to serve our members. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us. We wish you health and peace during these trying times.

Thank you,

D. Mark McClain, BCEC General Manager
