Application Information and Disclosures

Completed applications must be received by 5:30 p.m. on March 1 of each year. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

  • Two (2) scholarships of $4,000 each (up to $2,000 per year or $1,000 per semester) will be awarded.
  • Scholarship funds must be used beginning the first fall semester following high school graduation.
  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior for the current school year.
  • Applicant must reside with a parent or guardian who is a member of Big Country Electric Cooperative (BCEC).
  • Applicant must have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • If the recipient withdraws from college, junior college, trade school, or university and does not re-enroll at the same or another institution, the remaining portion of the scholarship will be forfeited. The recipient will not be eligible to reapply at a later date.
  • This scholarship may only be awarded to an individual once.
  • If selected, the applicant must provide proof of college enrollment before scholarship funds are disbursed.
  • Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the institution in which the recipient is enrolled and applied to the student’s account.
  • Applications will be evaluated by an independent committee and not by BCEC employees.
  • Applicants must submit the following as one combined PDF:
    • Official high school transcript with GPA
    • Any college transcripts (if applicable)
    • Two letters of recommendation
    • Essay response (500–750 words)
  • Essay Prompt: In 500–750 words, explain why you chose your intended field of study, how you plan to achieve your educational and career goals, and why you believe you should be considered for this scholarship.
  • Selection criteria includes evaluation of:
    • Academic performance and rigor (GPA, class rank, and coursework)
    • Strength of letters of recommendation
    • Leadership, extracurricular activities, and community involvement
    • Character, goals, and quality of the essay response
    • Financial need and the potential impact of the scholarship
